Overview
What they do
Founded in 2020 by prominent French tech investor Marie Ekeland, 2050 is a radically new breed of investment firm. It is structured as an evergreen fund that is 100% owned by a perpetual purpose trust (fonds de pérennité). Because the management company has no shareholders, it is uniquely positioned to align its financial capital with the long-term interests of people, society, and the planet over a 99-year horizon. 2050 is highly distinctive in the European ecosystem for its "ecosystemic" approach, dedicating a portion of its fund to open-source strategic resources (called "Commons") alongside traditional venture investments.

What they look for
2050’s thesis is centered on "crafting a fertile future" by investing in companies that align their core economic development with the best interests of society and the planet. They target five deep markets: "Eat Enough, Eat Healthfully", "Empowering Learning & Creativity", "Take Care of Body & Mind", "Live & Produce Sustainably", and "Put trust at the heart of the economy". They explicitly look for mission-driven founders who can achieve "triple performance: profit, people, and planet." They seek companies that embed sustainability directly into their unit economics and are willing to legally and structurally align their corporate governance with ecological and social goals.
