Founded in 2008, 3M Ventures was created to strengthen 3M's position at the leading edge of global innovation. It focuses on disruptive, early-stage innovations outside of the company's existing portfolio. The firm identifies and invests in the most promising new-to-3M technologies, services, and business models with long-term strategic relevance. Beyond capital, 3M Ventures leverages 3M's extensive technological platforms, manufacturing capabilities, and global networks to help scale their partner companies. Following a major corporate reorganization in 2024, the venture unit was moved from the strategy group to the corporate R&D department, merging with an internal business-building unit to create a unified innovation arm.
