What they do

Andra AP-fonden (AP2) is one of the Swedish national pension funds, managing capital with a long-term and responsible approach. Its mandate is to minimize the risk that the automatic balancing mechanism in the Swedish pension system, the so-called "brake", is triggered and reduces future pensions, by delivering stable and sustainable returns over time. The fund emphasizes responsibility and sustainability in its investment activities.

What they look for

AP2's overarching thesis is to maximize long-term return at low risk to pension disbursements. They invest globally across a highly diversified portfolio of equities, fixed income, real estate, and private equity/venture capital. Their strategy is heavily driven by Asset-Liability Modeling (ALM) to match the needs of the Swedish pension system. In the private markets (PE/VC), AP2 looks for external fund managers with strong governance, a long-term approach, and robust ESG frameworks. They expect underlying portfolio companies to be Paris-aligned, commit to net-zero by 2050, report absolute emissions across Scopes 1-3, and provide clear climate transition plans.
