What they do

AxLR is one of 13 SATTs created by the French government to transform public research into economic value. Based in Montpellier, it holds the exclusive mandate to detect, protect, and commercialize innovations from major research institutions in the 'Occitanie Méditerranée' area. Unlike a traditional VC, AxLR invests before a company is fully formed or in its very early stages, funding 'maturation programs' to build prototypes and prove market viability. They act as a co-founder for deeptech startups, providing the technology (IP), initial funding, and incubation support through their 'TTM Factory' program.

What they look for

AxLR’s core thesis is that academic laboratories hold breakthrough technologies that fail to reach the market due to a lack of 'maturation' and business expertise. They bridge this 'valley of death' by investing capital to de-risk these technologies technically and legally before transferring them to a startup or existing company.
