Overview
What they do
Innovationsstarter Fonds Hamburg II (IFH II) is a venture capital initiative managed by IFB Innovationsstarter GmbH, a subsidiary of the Hamburg Investment and Development Bank. Established to bridge the equity gap for early-stage startups in the Hamburg region, it is funded by the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg and the European Regional Development Fund. The fund invests pari-passu with private investors, and while IFH II has deployed most of its €12M corpus, the firm continues to support the ecosystem through successor funds like IFH III and the larger InnoVentureFonds. This solidifies its reputation as the 'first institutional check' for many Hamburg founders.

What they look for
The firm aims to strengthen Hamburg’s economic structure by funding innovative, high-growth potential startups that might otherwise struggle to secure private capital alone. They act as a 'public anchor' to de-risk rounds for private angels and VCs.
