What they look for

HMC’s mission is to ensure Harvard University has the financial resources to maintain and expand its leadership in education and research. They employ a "Generalist Model" where the entire investment team focuses on the best risk-adjusted returns across all asset classes globally, leveraging their long-term horizon to invest in illiquid assets like Private Equity and Venture Capital. For founders and startups, the strategy, primarily through OTD, involves de-risking science with grants to validate early-stage technologies and then licensing IP to startups in exchange for equity and royalties, rather than acting as a lead cash investor. HMC generally does not accept direct pitches for seed/Series A funding.
