What they do

Just Climate was founded in 2021 by Generation Investment Management (the firm co-founded by Al Gore and David Blood) to address a specific gap in the market: financing "hard-to-abate" industrial sectors that traditional venture capital often avoids due to capital intensity. They position themselves as "climate-led" investors, meaning they prioritize potential greenhouse gas abatement above all else, targeting solutions that can radically reduce emissions in the next decade. Unlike typical VCs that seek asset-light software models, Just Climate actively seeks asset-heavy businesses in steel, cement, energy, and agriculture. In 2025, they significantly expanded their footprint by launching a dedicated Latin America strategy and acquiring the Brazilian firm Good Karma Partners.

What they look for

Their core thesis revolves around the "Time Value of Carbon"-the concept that an emission cut today is worth more than one in the future. They focus exclusively on solutions that can deliver transformational (not incremental) emissions reductions within the next 10 years. They look for high-impact solutions capable of removing or avoiding gigatons of CO2e, typically investing in proven technologies at the "early commercial" stage that need capital to scale, and are comfortable with asset-heavy business models.
