What they do

Realdania grew out of a mortgage credit association that for more than 150 years provided home owners with mortgage loans. When Realdania mortgage credit activities were sold off in a merger in 2000, it was decided to secure the value of the company capital in a philanthropic association. This way, future generations would benefit from the money through the continuing improvement and development of the built environment. Today we are a member-based philanthropic organization that supports projects in the built environment: cities, buildings and built heritage. What they look for

Realdania’s overarching strategy is to maximize risk-adjusted returns to protect its equity and fund its philanthropic work. For its venture and startup-focused capital, it utilizes a "Mission-Related Investment" (MRI) strategy. The MRI mandate requires a "triple bottom line": 1) Investments must support Realdania's mission to improve the built environment; 2) They must not compromise on market-rate financial returns; and 3) The firm must share its learnings and impact publicly.
