They act as a regional "patent factory" and deeptech venture builder, identifying promising inventions from over 200 regional universities and research institutes. Positioned as the antithesis of a traditional software VC, they are distinctive for prioritizing "technology-fit" and patent robustness over immediate market traction. They de-risk science by financing prototypes and intellectual property protection before licensing the technology to existing corporations or spinning it out into newly funded startups.

SATT Sud-Est's core mission is to develop the economic competitiveness of companies through innovation derived from public research. Their thesis centers on "maturation"-taking raw academic discoveries and investing capital to elevate their Technology Readiness Level (TRL) to a point where they are viable for industrial commercialization. They look for highly defensible, patentable deeptech projects originating from public research laboratories within their specific geographic perimeter (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur and Corsica). Projects must have a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) greater than 3 and require additional development to reach a proof-of-concept or prototype stage. They favor founders with a clear 5-year industrialization plan.
