What they do

Established in 2015 by David Rees and his daughter Elisabeth Rees, the Seerave Foundation was inspired by the personal experience of David's wife, Eva Rees, who fought metastatic melanoma. Funded by a family endowment generated from the 2017 sale of Greenergy, the foundation operates at the intersection of microbiome science, the immune system, and oncology. Seerave is distinct in the ecosystem for its hybrid "venture philanthropy" model, which blends traditional academic grants with direct equity investments in early-stage startups. What they look for

Seerave’s core thesis is that the human microbiome is key to realizing the full potential of the immune system to cure disease, particularly cancer. They believe that by supporting the microbiome before, during, and after cancer treatment, clinicians can dramatically improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Their venture arm invests in technologies that translate these scientific insights into updated clinical practices and novel clinical tools.
