Overview
What they do
Founded in 2021 with an initial $1.5 billion in base grant capital from the Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund, GEAPP operates as a collaborative platform and catalytic investor. It aims to unlock $100 billion in public and private capital over a decade to tackle energy poverty and climate change. GEAPP focuses exclusively on developing countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. By deploying highly flexible, risk-tolerant capital (grants, subordinated debt, and junior equity), GEAPP de-risks renewable energy projects, phases out fossil fuels, and builds sustainable infrastructure, making these projects bankable for commercial investors and multilateral development banks.

What they look for
GEAPP’s thesis is to end energy poverty and tackle the climate crisis through a just transition to renewable energy in emerging and developing economies. Their investments are strictly guided by three core impact pillars: POWER: Reaching 1 billion people with reliable, renewable energy. CLIMATE: Avoiding and averting 4 billion tons of carbon emissions. JOBS: Creating, enabling, or improving 150 million green jobs and livelihoods.
