Created as part of the Aberdeen City Region Deal with an initial £180 million in UK and Scottish government funding, the Net Zero Technology Centre was originally founded to maximize economic recovery from the UK continental shelf. In 2021, the organization underwent a major strategic pivot and rebrand, shifting its entire focus toward decarbonizing the offshore energy sector and accelerating the transition to net zero. Through its award-winning TechX Clean Energy Accelerator, NZTC provides early-stage startups with capital, intensive mentorship, and direct access to major energy operators. The centre is highly regarded in the UK ecosystem for bridging the gap between disruptive climate tech startups, academia, and legacy energy giants to facilitate real-world field trials and commercialization.
