- Cheque size: average cheques of $5m to $10m from Fund V.
- AI startups backed: Forgepoint, which builds an AI inside sales rep that prices and sends quotes for manufacturers, and Tabs, an AI-native revenue platform that Primary's own site places in New York and whose $55m Series B Primary joined on 16 September 2025 as a follow-on, with Lightspeed leading.

One trade report places Concentrate AI in New York City and the company's own release is datelined there, though neither its own site nor the state register confirms an address.
- Latest New York deal: Helogen, where one report says RRE co-led the round with Oceans on 4 September 2026, with One Way Ventures and Blisce participating. Helogen Corporation is registered in Kings County, which is Brooklyn. Helogen works on orbital biomanufacturing, so the AI side of this card rests on Concentrate AI.

Also worth knowing
AlleyCorp both incubates and invests, and Fortune reported in July 2026 that it had raised a $335m second fund for early-stage bets, with first cheques under $10m, run from a building in Nolita. Betaworks invests at pre-seed and seed and runs the AI Camp programme described below. A New York target list is rarely only New York firms: Greylock led Niteshift's seed and Afore Capital and Pathlight joined Petra Labs', so it is worth tracking the funds that keep appearing beside the local names.
Other support in the region
The Techstars New York City Accelerator invests $220,000, made up of $200,000 through an uncapped MFN SAFE and $20,000 through a post-money convertible common equity agreement, in exchange for 5% of the company in common stock. Applications for the cohort starting on 8 March 2027 close on 18 November 2026.
Betaworks Camp is a twelve-week programme run in person at Betaworks' offices in the Meatpacking District. Betaworks and its syndicate partners each invest up to $250,000, for up to $500,000 per team, and the programme itself charges nothing.
FAQ
Are any of these investors AI-only? None of the five funds above is an AI-only vehicle. Each is a generalist or enterprise software investor that has backed AI companies recently. Betaworks runs its Camp programme on AI themes, so that is the closest thing on this page to an AI-specific route in.
What if I am pre-seed, or spinning out of a university lab? Lerer Hippeau states that it specialises in pre-seed and seed, BoxGroup states that it invests at the earliest stage, and RRE co-led a pre-seed on 10 June 2026, so a first institutional cheque in New York is realistic. For a research spinout with no revenue, the accelerator routes above are usually easier to enter than a direct approach to a seed fund.
How were these investors chosen? Each one has a dated investment in New York City in the past two years, invests at pre-seed, seed or Series A, has made a new investment in the past eighteen months, and has an AI deal or a stated AI focus. This guide treats New York as the five boroughs of Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Staten Island, so Jersey City and Hoboken count as New Jersey. New York has many more investors that pass those tests than fit on one page, so the five here are a judgement about which are most useful to an early-stage AI founder, weighted towards funds that lead pre-seed and seed rounds.
