AMR Action Fund

What they do

Launched in 2020 by the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers & Associations (IFPMA) and 23 leading pharmaceutical companies, the AMR Action Fund is the world's largest public-private partnership investing in antimicrobial therapeutics. It was created in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the European Investment Bank, and the Wellcome Trust to address the collapsing antibiotic pipeline. The fund provides a vital financial lifeline to struggling biotechs developing treatments for priority drug-resistant pathogens, bridging the "valley of death" in late-stage clinical development. Beyond capital, the fund advocates for market reforms to ensure sustainable investment in the space.

What they look for

The fund invests in clinical-stage biotechnology companies developing urgently needed therapeutics-including antibiotics, antifungals, and other antimicrobial technologies-for priority pathogens identified by the WHO and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). They seek novel antibiotics and antimicrobial therapeutics that address the highest unmet medical needs, make a significant difference in clinical practice, and save lives. They focus on later stages of clinical development (Phase 1/2 through Phase 3) and are open to both traditional small-molecule compounds and innovative modalities, such as bacteriophages, immunotherapies, and defined bacterial consortia.
