FAQ

Are any of these investors AI-only? One comes close. Tau Ventures is the only one of the six to state an AI mandate, backing founders building AI-driven technologies in healthcare, enterprise and automation. The other five back AI companies alongside other software and hardware. ATX Venture Partners, which is not carded here, also describes its own strategy as applied AI, across four verticals.

I am at pre-seed with no institutional backing. Which of these six should I approach? Tau Ventures and LiveOak both state that they invest at pre-seed, and Sputnik ATX runs a pre-seed programme with published terms.

How were these investors chosen? Each one has a dated investment in a Travis County company in the last 24 months, invests at pre-seed, seed or Series A, has made a new investment since April 2025, and either states an AI focus or has done an AI deal in the last 24 months. This guide uses Travis County as the boundary, so Dallas, Houston and San Antonio companies do not count, an Austin office without a dated Austin deal does not qualify a firm, and a firm based elsewhere that has done a dated Austin deal does. More investors pass those tests than a guide can carry, so the six cards are a judgement about which are most useful to an early-stage AI founder.
