Also worth knowing
Alven invests at early stage and led Verley's €32m Series A in February 2026 in a Lyon company, and Eurazeo, which invests "From the initial stages to Series C funding", led Wavo's €10m round in Lyon on 13 October 2026. Both clear the same four tests and both are useful once your round is larger. Mesh, the seed fund launched by the CCI Lyon Métropole Saint-Étienne Roanne, joined the Reecall round, as did Holnest. Hi Inov keeps a Lyon office and says it invests in mission-critical technology for the AI era at late seed and Series A, though its 2025 and 2026 announcements name no Métropole de Lyon company.
Other support in the region
Pouss@LYS, the consortium led by the technology transfer office Pulsalys, is the single labelling body for the French Tech Seed scheme across Lyon and Saint-Étienne, and successful deeptech applicants can become eligible for convertible bonds of between €50,000 and €250,000. FAQ
Which of these investors states an AI focus of its own? Axeleo Capital names AI, data and developer tools as a sector in its own right, 50 Partners lists artificial intelligence among its tech fund's sectors, and Founders Future frames its thesis around applied AI. Bpifrance Digital Venture, XAnge, Newfund and Evolem qualify on this guide's AI test through their dated AI investments in Lyon.
I am a university spinout at pre-seed. Where do I start? Pouss@LYS is the route to French Tech Seed in Lyon and Saint-Étienne, and only its registered business introducers can submit applications, so getting in front of one of them comes first. On the equity side, Axeleo Capital and 50 Partners both enter at pre-seed.
How were these investors chosen? Each one has a dated investment inside the Métropole de Lyon in the last 24 months, states that it invests at pre-seed, seed or Series A or describes itself as early stage with dated deals in that range, has made a new investment since May 2025 and either states an AI focus or has backed an AI company in the last 24 months. This guide uses the Métropole de Lyon, which has been its own territorial collectivity since 2015, so a commune decides the boundary rather than a postcode: Saint-Étienne is in the Loire and Grenoble is in the Isère, and parts of the département du Rhône sit outside the Métropole. Selection among qualifying firms is a judgement about usefulness to an early-stage AI founder.
