Food and agriculture investors
Food and agriculture investors back companies across the chain from farm inputs to what ends up on a plate: crop science, farm software and equipment, alternative proteins, supply chain, food brands and the services around them. It is a sector with long cycles, physical products and customers who adopt carefully.
The firms on this list name food or agriculture as a focus on their own website. Some are dedicated agrifood funds and many are climate or deeptech investors with an agriculture practice. Each cites its own site as the source for what is written here.

What food and agriculture investors look for
A customer who has tried it.
Farmers and food companies adopt slowly and on evidence. A pilot on real acres or in a real plant, with results the customer will confirm, is worth more than any projection.
Economics at farm or plant scale.
Whether the product pays for itself for the customer within a season or a contract cycle. Investors want the customer's arithmetic, in the customer's units.
A route to market through the existing chain.
Distributors, cooperatives, input companies and retailers control access. Investors look for a plan that works with the chain or a credible reason it can be bypassed.
Regulatory and biological realism.
New crops, inputs and proteins face approvals and seasons. A timeline that respects both is a sign the team has done this before.
Capital that matches the model.
Some agrifood companies are software with software margins. Others are plants and fields. Investors want to see that the founders know which they are building and are raising the right kind of money.
Raising in food and agriculture
Agrifood rounds are often slower than software rounds, because evidence arrives by the season. Founders should plan raises around trial results and align the round with the moment the data lands.
Have ready: trial or pilot data with the customer's confirmation, unit economics from the customer's side, the regulatory path where there is one, the supply and manufacturing plan for physical products, and the distribution partnerships in place or in discussion.
Strategic investors from the food and input industries are active in this sector and often invest alongside venture firms. They bring distribution and move at corporate speed.
Questions
Is agritech the same as food tech?
They overlap. Agritech usually means the farm side: inputs, equipment, software and biology. Food tech usually means what happens after: processing, alternative products, supply chain and brands. Many firms on this list back both.
How do investors assess a farm software company?
By adoption on real farms, retention across seasons, and whether farmers pay for it directly or through a partner. Farm software is a hard sale, and evidence of the sale matters more than the product.
Are alternative protein companies still being funded?
Yes, more selectively than a few years ago. Investors now ask harder questions about cost parity, taste and manufacturing capacity before backing the category.
Do climate investors fund agriculture?
Many do, because agriculture is a large share of emissions and land use. The list on this page includes firms that state agriculture as a focus, including climate funds.
How long does it take to sell to a large food company?
Often a year or more, through trials, procurement and compliance. Investors know this and want to see a pipeline with named companies and where each one is.
